Data Sources & Quality
BearingDB compiles technical specifications from multiple authoritative sources to ensure accuracy:
- Manufacturer catalogs — Official product catalogs from SKF, NTN, NSK, FAG/Schaeffler, Timken, KOYO, and NACHI
- Industry standards — ISO 15 (rolling bearings), ISO 492 (tolerances), ISO 281 (load ratings)
- Cross-validation — Each data point is verified against at least 2 independent sources
- Authorized distributor data — Technical specifications from authorized bearing distributors
Cross-Reference Methodology
Bearing interchangeability is determined by matching these critical parameters:
- Boundary dimensions — Bore diameter (d), outside diameter (D), and width (B) must be identical per ISO 15
- Load ratings — Dynamic (Cr) and static (C0r) load ratings are compared
- Speed ratings — Maximum permissible speeds for grease and oil lubrication
- Internal geometry — Contact angle, number of rolling elements, and cage design
Important: While bearings with identical dimensions are generally interchangeable, we recommend verifying specific application requirements (precision class, clearance group, seal type) with the manufacturer before substitution.
